Weather in Europe.Snow on the way?

European Weather and Snow This Coming Week
The coming week
Yet more heavy snowfall has been reported from USA and Canada.
Some West Coast ski resorts have reported falls of up to1m of powder
 this past week.

The general situation in Europe has not yet altered, although some
Scandinavian resorts reported some respectable falls this week.

In The Alps, the best conditions remain to the South of the main Alpine
rim with Cervinia opening 1,500m of vertical, from Plan Maison to the top.

Elsewhere the SkiWelt and other resorts in Austria have postponed their
openings,** although cool temperatures have permitted more snow-making
here and in France.

It does look, at last, as if the snow famine is about to break. Temperatures
and pressures are forecast for this weekend, together with light precipitation
in several areas through to Monday. Scattered and light snow showers are
possible across most of the region, with snow falling as low as 1,500m from
Saturday thro to next week.
Precipitation 2-12-2011
After the weekend, the freezing intensity across most of The Alps should
keep falling, possibly to 1,100m by Monday evening - the forecast models
are indicating heavy snowfalls in many areas by then.

For now, the heaviest snows look likely to fall to the Northern Alps, although
the forecast will change over the course of the next few days.

Further swathes of snow look likely to pass through the Alpine region later
next week and significant local falls are likely..

  ===============================
Some sad news from States.
Pro skier killed in avalanche
The first avalanche-related death of the US winter season has claimed
the life of Pro skier/snowboarder Matthew Jamie Pierre, in Snowbird
Utah.
Jamie Pierre is best known for his world record achievement in 2006,
with a 255-foot
cliff jump at Grand Targhee in Wyoming; but also for taking part in
various films, such as those by Warren Miller. The American triggered
last weekend’s slide while snowboarding with a friend in South Chute
in Gad Valley.  - WTS&S UK.

** Val 'd Isere has cancelled next weeks World
Cup event!!
-- Europe’s snow drought has forced more World Cup races to be
cancelled. This time it’s Val d’Isère’s 2011 Criterium event, due to

Ski and Snowboard

European Weather and Snow This Coming Week

Howzit,

The week ahead
A bit of a repeat this week of last week. Over in the good'l U.S. of A. heavy snowfall has
been reported, (especially in the West) with around a metre of snow in Whistler in the
past week, and 30cm overnight in Banff. Europe unfortuanately is lagging so far.

A number of European resorts have delayed their openings although there are now
around 20 ski areas open, thanks in part to snow-making efforts and glaciers. A few
Scandinavian resorts have begun to open.

Temperatures in much of the Alpine area continue to fall, although slowly, toward
seasonal averages and conditions remain dry just about everywhere in mainland Europe.
The only precipitation is in the Atlanti and the Med (SW of Italy) Scottish mountains
should see some snow over the next few days, although high winds are expected.

For several days, the forecast models have been indicating a change in the continental
weather at the end of this month, so we watch and wait! It will come, but in the mean
time keep doing your excercises and chill. :)

Hold thumbs for next week...

Weather in Europe

European Weather and Snow This Coming Week
Much of the Alpine area will continue to experience above average temperatures for a few more days at least, although temperatures are dropping and most forecasts indicate seasonal averages prevailing within a week or so. The weather will remain settled and (unfortunately) dry for most areas into next week.
European weather continues to be dominated by a blocking system of high pressure to the East, which brings milder than usual conditions to most of The Alps. Longer range forecasts are hinting at movement and we have our fingers crossed.
Some of the early-opening resorts have announced delayed openings this week - including Davos and Val Thorens - although glacier skiing is available at several resorts in Austria, Italy and France.
Unfortunately, our Worry Beads are not yet available. we are still only at mid-November and there is plenty of time for snows to come.

Chamonix

Chamonix
The first thing that hits you about Chamonix is the scenery; you cant possibly drive into the town without being impressed. Being at the foot of Mont Blanc, Chamonix was destined to be a popular resort from the start, nearly a century ago. Amazingly, Chamonix seems to have developed and matured into the perfect town, rather than being destroyed by ugly buildings and tourists like so many resorts. It has plenty of olde worlde charm, streets that you could wander round for days, a diversity of nationalities and more facilities than anyone could need. On top of this, the mountains are the best without a shadow of a doubt and the nightlife is incredible. The commute between the town and the mountains isnt ideal but its this fact that lets Chamonix maintain the feel of a real town, as opposed to a purpose-built resort, so well forgive this slight inconvenience.

Avoriaz

Avoriaz
Avoriaz is completely unique. The design and architecture of the town is very 60s, but it was nevertheless well thought out and there is something spectacular and charming about its crazily angled structure, enhanced by its impressive setting on the edge of a cliff. One of the really exceptional features is that practically all the accommodation is ski-in ski-out.
As the village is car-free and very wide, everyone whacks on their equipment outside their apartment and cruises down to the lift a much preferable way to start the day than cumbersome bus journeys and long walks. The mountains are unquestionably superb, with Avoriaz being bang in the centre of the massive Portes de Soleil circuit that unites the slopes of France and Switzerland. If you are looking for luxurious accommodation think again there is only one hotel that could be described as such, Les Dromonts; most of the apartments are pretty cramped.

Les Arcs

Les Arcs
Les Arcs has four resorts at different levels: Arc 1600,Arc 1800, the beautiful new Arc 1950 and Arc 2000. Arc 1800 (containing the three hamlets of Charvet, Villards and Charmettoger) isnt beautiful, but its one of our favourite parts of Les Arcs. Charvet and Villards are centred round slightly claustrophobic open-air shopping centres and Charmettoger is prettier in the trees but its a 1015 minute walk to the bars in Villards. The brand new Arc 1950 is stunning. Its still in the final stages of being built (due to be completely finished in 2008) by the Canadian company Intrawest, and it has a certain Canadian feel to it. The apartments are spacious and modern and the buildings are colourful. A few more restaurants and shops popped up last year, and you can expect Arc 1950 to continue to grow over the next year or two.
